Psychologists do, at a minimum, have an introductory understanding of the effect medications can have on mood fluctuation, body sensations, thoughts, and behaviors. They are able to help identify when a referral to a psychiatrist might be needed and can assist with community referrals. Additionally, they can assist in helping you to create a plan that aids you in taking your medication as prescribed and, if you would like, can consult with your family physician.

Research shows that effective treatment can be as short as 5-20 weeks with specific treatment styles.
